About This Spot

Walking into Koité Grill in Silver Spring feels like stepping into a warm corner of Senegal, tucked into the hum of 8626 Colesville Road. The restaurant hums with a relaxed energy—unpretentious and lively—where the aroma of charred spices and freshly grilled meats invites you to slow down and savor the moment. It’s the kind of local spot where familiar faces and new visitors mingle, sharing in the rich traditions that echo through the food and the steady rhythms of West African music drifting softly in the background.

The pace is friendly and unhurried, the kind of place where the kitchen’s focus on layering flavors reveals itself in each tender bite. Flame-grilled offerings like lamb dibi and chicken kabobs arrive paired with vibrant Jollof rice, bringing a comforting depth that feels both homey and adventurous. Alongside these, lighter touches like fried plantains, ginger-pineapple juices, and the tart hibiscus syrup add refreshing notes that balance the meal with a burst of brightness.

Koité Grill carries a quiet pride in its authentic flavors, reflecting recipes that have been honed through generations. It’s a space where how food is made matters as much as what’s on the plate—each dish carries stories of place and family woven subtly into every morsel. The environment warmly welcomes those seeking a genuine connection to Senegalese cuisine, whether you’re discovering it for the first time or craving a familiar taste of home.

Here, the service feels personal and grounded, with a family-owned spirit that invites conversations and makes every visit feel like more than just a meal. The generous portions and careful attention to detail create an experience that lingers, inviting you back to explore new flavors or simply enjoy a reliable, soulful meal in a sincere atmosphere.

I was so excited to stumble upon a Senegalese food truck at the RFK Market this summer in NE DC! It instantly took me back to my trip to Senegal—where I fell in love with lamb dibi, poulet yassa, and the amazing ginger and bissap (hibiscus) drinks. The food was quick, healthy, and soooo flavorful. And with Senegalese music playing in the background, the vibe was perfect and the owners were easy on eyes- tall, dark, and very handsome! Treat yourself to an authentic taste of Senegal in DC- you’ll thank me later! ????????

Koite Grill is a delicious and authentic Senegalese restaurant located in Silver Spring, Maryland. I recently went with my dining companion who happens to be Senegalese. We originally made a reservation, but it became clear when we arrived that this reservation had not been communicated to the 3 youths working the restaurant. However, after my companion spoke to them in Wollof, they quickly found us a table. The food is excellent! Tastes just like Senegal. Granted, whether you are dining in or getting takeout, they serve all the food in plastic to-go containers, it was all delicious. I had Senegal’s most famous dish, Thieboudienne, and it tasted just like I remembered it tasting in Senegal. My companion had the poulet (or chicken) yassa – which he stated “tasted just like home.” Do not come for the service or the atmosphere, but come for the absolutely authentically delicious Senegalese cuisine!

Both the food and service were great. The only drawback is how pricey some of the items were, so it’s a bit of a splurge to eat here. Definitely recommend the chicken dibi with brown jollof rice. Also try some of their habanero sauce if you love heat.

No frills family owned spot in Downtown Silver Spring. Food was delicious! And portions are generous too. Customer service was awesome and I really enjoyed the Chicken Dibi and the Pastels! Will definitely be a go to if I'm in the area

Soo, this is an unconventional review, because I was mentioning to someone how much I was craving some god jollof rice and they recommended this place and another… and imagine my surprise when they were at the Hst festival! I hopped in line, waited (amongst a crowd) for about 10-15 mins… they did have a fluid operation going for an outdoor event, so I can only imagine what a dine in experience is like! Very impressive. But, can’t compare prices because it was an event… but the 2 items I got were definitely pricey and flavorful! And probably enough for 2 people to have some sides if you chose a meat entree (which I didn’t), just the 2 sides (which would classify as vegetarian, Macn cheese and the jollof ( possibly vegan, not sure if the rice was boiled in a broth?) The Jollof: The rice was very different, can’t explain the grain used, it’s very small, reminiscent of a tiny couscous… I’m told they use something similar in Hati, but with the other flavors and veggies with the grilled onions on top, it was just right. But I was informed the Senegalese do jollof different. So yes on the very different, but equally yes on the flavor, though different also, it was hints that are familiar while taking their own spin on it. Will be on the lookout for them if I’m ever close to that side of Maryland.

So I went here not knowing what to expect, but the reviews were so good so I had to try. My honest opinion. Wow. The food was so tasty and flavorful. The meat was so tender and soft and the rice was so yummy. I will definitely be coming back here soon!! All their meat is halal just FYI! The only downside is their food takes a little while to come out but hey you can't rush amazing food!
